iPad Lease Payments Now Due

Reminder for all grades 3 to 6: the first payment in 2016 for leased iPads is now due! Thanks to all those who have paid since week 5. Late or no payments will result in students not being able to take the iPad home from Thursday 17th March as stated in the lease agreements. Thank you for your support in the program.

Maths Extension

The maths extension program has started again this year with the students meeting with Mr Johnson and Mr Jeffers. We are very lucky to have the passionate ex-Senior Maths teacher Barry Johnson work with the students. We thank him for his time. The aim of this program is to challenge the students in mathematics content through a range of quizzes and problem solving tasks.  The students will have some homework tasks and will again compete in the Australian Mathematics Competition in July. We have adopted a few mottos this year such as, “Depth is more important than speed” and “Mistakes are valuable”. This is to ensure the students have a problem solving attitude to solving complex tasks.

Partners in Print

The Preps had their first session of Partners in Print last night.

It started with a sausage sizzle and then there was lots of learning about reading.

It was fantastic to see so many parents and children having fun reading together.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone again next week to do some learning about writing.

Putting students work online through Compass is a way you can bring learning into the home. You can view your child’s work and feedback from the teacher. So please log in at www.mildurawestps.vic.jdlf.com.au

Basketball Court Work is Underway

We have workers at the school currently working on phase one of the new court. This involves levelling out the surface. There is a temporary fence erected to keep students safe and away from the area. Phase two will begin next week with the laying of the grass. The project includes a new synthetic basketball and netball court, running sprint lanes and new synthetic grass cricket pitches on the oval. We anticipate the project will be completed within two weeks. Everyone is very excited and we hope this further supports the great sporting facilities we have here at West.

School Council Elections will take place Tuesday 15th March 2016.

At Mildura West Primary School, the School Council plays an important role in supporting the principal to provide the best possible educational outcomes for students.

Participating as a school council member is a rewarding and challenging experience. It’s a great way to get involved and have a real say in what your school is doing for its students.

Interested parents, carers and community members can obtain a Nomination form from the School Office. We welcome all people willing to get involved to make our school, a great school.
