Grade 5 Unit of Inquiry

As part of our Unit of Inquiry into “ People’s lives may change as a result of migration”, the students in Yr 5 walked down to the Mildura Arts Centre last Thursday. As you are aware students have been learning about the many and varied reasons why people have come to Australia. To further deepen their understanding, we looked at an exhibition titled “Making Home: Mildura Migration Stories”. This work traces the flow and movement of people, things and ideas, which migrants have bought to Mildura. From this, we hope that each individual gained a better insight, into what it is like for someone to have to leave their homeland and create a new life in another country.

“On Thursday all the Yr 5’s went to the ArtCentre. My favourite bit was going in the Art Room. It had all the migrant stories. We got to look at the art work about their life. We had a great day” – Max 5K

“On Thursday the Grade 5’s went to the Arts Centre. We split into 3 groups, 1 went to Rio Vista House and the second group went to the gallery and saw heaps of migration photos. The last group read stories about different people from around the world.” – Layla 5K

“Last Thursday we went to the Art Centre and looked at peoples migration stories. I liked looking at all the different places people had migrated from.” – Will 5K
