The shiny tiles

Last Thursday we went down to the Lake Ranfurly. We found these interesting shiny tiles stuck in the ground. There were other things like rocks and cool concrete. The real reason we went down was to plant seeds and make the area better.

Plant trees nice for the world!

We dispersed native seeds. This is how we did it! We wear gloves for planting trees, we plant trees for blocking the tracks at Lake Ranfurly. There are different seeds for planting the trees:  Acacia, River Red Gum and, Black box. We found some midden shells and we enjoyed  planting the seeds.

Give me a Green Thumb!

Last Thursday my class 5P and I went to lake Ranfurly to plant some seeds.  I thought it was easy because when I plant seeds at my house I just bury the seeds in the dirt, give it some water and then the next day it start to grow! But it’s actually harder than I thought! My group worked very well together!

The awesome 5P planting trees.

My class and I went to Lake Ranfurly and we planted seeds. Crystal, Taleyah and I found lots of things that could have been recyled or shpould have been put in the rubbish bin.

Planting trees so the world looks better!

DSC06184Our experience of planting trees and helping the environment at Johnson’s Bend and The Ski Club was fantastic. When we arrived we got told how to plant the trees and got on our gloves so our hands didn’t get dirty and our nails didn’t break the roots.

Keeping Green!

DSC06190At the Mildura Ski Club we planted over 130 trees. We had a 95 percent survival rate. We made a really significant difference in the environment. My favourite part was learning what all the different trees were.

5OH Tree Planting

l planted 12 trees with my friend James. The class planted 260 at 2 places: Johnson’s Bend and the Mildura Ski Club!

Off to the River!

I planted 6 trees at Johnsons Bend. First you have to dig a hole then plant the tree. Do not disturb the roots. Make sure you water the tree!

Big fun at the Ski Club

At the Ski Club we had lots of fun working with the sustainability officer!

Trees can be cool too!

DSC06178A lot of people don’t think trees are cool when they actually are. Trees provide oxygen for us while they take the carbon dioxide. Well we planted over 100 trees as the Ski Club so that it makes the world greener. I think it was a fun experience because I got to team up with my partner to make it easier to plant a tree.

At the Ski Club

DSC06149I had fun at the Mildura Ski Club because we got to get out of school and go to the Ski Club to help plant more plants with a partner.

We had to use a tube stock and two sticks and a guard for the plant. Once it was planted we had to water it!

The Ski Club!

  • At the Mildura Ski Club we planted over 130 trees. It looked dark with nothing and now it looks bright and green. When we were there I was excited and couldn’t wait to start!

Seed dispersal and then it rained!

DSC06386 DSC06385 DSC06368 DSC06366 DSC06363 DSC06361 DSC06359 DSC06358Hamayan: We have been learning about seed dispersal, another way to revegetate. We take a mixture of native seed indigenous to Lake Ranfurly.

Jai: We mix it with soil. Then we find an area that is a bare patch, rake it and then scatter the seed mixture.

Ty: We gently cover the seed with soil and find some natural litter to put on top such as twigs or leaves. Then we hope it rains to geminate the seed!

Planting seeds at Lake Ranfurly

We planted many different types of native seeds at Lake Ranfurly to cover up the bare ground. This is another way to regvegetate. You have to cover the seeds with soil so they don’t blow away or the birds eat them.dsc04797 We also planted native trees.
