Cockle Shell

DSC06534The Cockle Shell, also known as the Midden Shell is an occupation site where Aboriginal people left the remains of their meals. At some sites deposits grew over generations of use of the same area after many years. Midden Shells are leftovers from some shellfish, bones, birds, fish and land and river animals used for food. Over the years the erosion of the sand makes the shells visible.

“On the 31st of August 2017 my class and I travelled down to Lake Ranfurly and I found a Midden Shell. I didn’t know what it was or what was it called, so I decided to research it and I was curious and now I know all about it.It is also a coincidence because this week in NAIDOC week.”IMG_3552

Dismantling the jump!

IMG_1732DSC06549

Shovels penetrating the rough ground pulling the dirt out of its place. We worked together making the jump a keep out zone to help revegetate the area. We planted some new seeds to stop people riding motor bikes or bikes up and down the slope.

Breaking down the jump

DSC06521DSC06549

With shovels and rakes attacking the jump we began breaking it down. The problem with the jump being there was that it was an inviting place for bike riders. When the bike riders went over the jump they were landing and killing some very special native vegetation. By the end of the trip the jump was no longer a jump it was a log in the middle of the track. We also sprinkled some seeds by raking the ground then spreading seeds and then raked the ground again. It was a great experience and I’m sure we all had fun.

5P amazing excursion to Ranfurly

Digging everywhere, helping Australia, using  rakes, shovels, gloves, and lots  more. We also had to get a bucket and  get some dirt and put seeds with the dirt then rake the ground placing the seeds all through the dirt. We also found amazing things like a phone, coins,  jewellery boxes and way more.

Give me a Green Thumb!

Last Thursday my class 5P and I went to lake Ranfurly to plant some seeds.  I thought it was easy because when I plant seeds at my house I just bury the seeds in the dirt, give it some water and then the next day it start to grow! But it’s actually harder than I thought! My group worked very well together!

Energy is important

If you see that the classroom has enough light, turn the lights off.

If students leave the classroom and there’s no one in it  turn it off. (check if classrooms have sensors)

Close the doors if the heaters are on. Inform the students to wear jumpers to make everything much easier to save power!

Dangerous but special

Sometimes the environment can be dangerous. But is also cool. So we need to protect the environment.

Fun with plants!

We learnt about the environment and how it works. We took cuttings of plants from Rio Vista Park. We then learnt how to plant them into seedling trays so they can grow to be used by the Council and our school in 2017.

Mildura Landfill

When we went to the Landfill with my school Mildura West, they put the rubbish in the rubish pile and the recycling in the recycling pile. Then when they finished they squished it into a square shape like a cube.

Don’t waste energy

If we didn’t have to use any electricity it wouldn’t wreck the environment. It also wouldn’t make you pay heaps of money for power bills so what I’m trying to say is that people should walk to school or walk anywhere. We could somehow at school make up our own electricity. Why do I think this because it wastes too much money on electricity when we could make our own electricity. We could do this by getting bikes and it could power some stuff and also get people fit.

Paddy Melons

Paddy Melons destroy plants and we don’t give the thought a second glance. They break open and spread their seeds all around and grow without a sound. So take a stand stop the spread or all our animals will end up dead.So think about that while you’re in bed or we’re going to have big regrets!
